Tarantino was a student and fan of the genre and basically created a montage of all of the greatest flicks from 70's (Foxy Brown, Superfly, Dolemite).
De Niro, Sam Jackson, the young Fonda, Pam Grier all outstanding in characters that are atypical for each actor (cept Pam Grier).
The movie, the plot, the acting was masterful for this genre, a warning if you are not a fan of the 70's flicks and have no affinity for blaxploitation flicks then you might not get the symbolism but the movie is enjoyable on its own without knowing the history. |
