In what is becoming 'typical' Tarantino fashion, Jackie Brown weaves in and out of a storyline following a caper filled with criminals and cops.
Been years since I first seen this, and it still entertains. Acting is good for this type film (better than most suspense/action films). Nothing stunning visually, other than the moment in time being realistically documented. Movie works at a slow pace with purpose, building tension and leaving room for the surprise ending to fit.
The relationship between Max and Jackie caught my interest this 4th or 5th viewing. There was more tension than I remember (when trying to break their roles as a white male and a black female). The film makes it known that such a relationship is tabboo, but allows the charatcers room to explore the possibility anyway. Respectfully, Tarantino makes it neither race's issue and leaves the ending open for our personal reflection. |
