Ruth Gordon was a brilliant actor. She portrayed Maude with the utmost dignity. By the end of the movie, I actually wished I had the chance to have spent time with Maude. Her character was beautiful, well-lived, good natured, silly, adventurous (she stole a police officer's motour cycle to continue transplanting a tree to its natural habitat). Bud Cort was marvellous as young Harold, the bored rich kid whose mother was too busy being a debutante to notice him. The story was a work of art. It was both surprising, dramatic and warm.
I really recommend this movie. It's not overtly sexual, though it can be quite graphic or morbid, if you are of weak constitution. |
