This movie is a classical achievement in the colour and sound era.
Basically, what made me bring the movie to the A's are the following: the Overture, the actress Vivien Leigh's acting and the monumental scenes. Also, the torrent of events in the movie has made me realize and know how the Confederates lived after their subjugation by the Union forces.
The Overture:
This is the first time that I've seen a movie with an overture, well, just like an overture in an opera. The soundtrack itself is a story; the tones and the notes have made the good transition from a jolly tone to a sad but hopeful tone, just as how the story of the movie would come out.
Vivien Leigh:
Actually, I've known Vivien Leigh before I watched the movie last week. However, all I know is that she is a native of Darjeeling, India, has the name of Vivian Mary Hartley and is the Oscar Best Actress winner for 1939. However, as the movie unraveled before my eyes, I've seen her "delicate beauty" and as the movie progressed, I've seen the good transition of her bubbly character from a young immature one to a hot-tempered coquette whose great objective is to make a lot of money "to beat the Yankees' game." Also, she carried the role very, very well that if all the Oscar Best Actress winners were to be awarded the best of them all, I believe Vivien Leigh would take the hands down.
Scenes:
As an avid movie fan, I have observed that the movie itself is divided into three important parts, stressed by three monumental scenes. All of these scenes are shot in a zooming out way. The first scene was the scene where Scarlett is eswcorted by her father in the oak tree as her father convinces her that Tara is meant for her. The second scene features Scarlett delivering the monumental line, "God is my witness, that I'll never go hungry again," and the camera zooms out. The last scene is her return to Tara. All scene were dramatically shot in sunset sets. Very outstanding.
Overall, if there is a grade higher than outstanding, I'll give it to Gone With the Wind.
