Dazzling Dancing

Though there's nothing particularly original in this story of a young girls first love it remains one of the all time greats of chick-flick cinema: perhaps for the reason that it embodys all the ideals of a great romance. Apart from the central romantic story several lessons are imparted on the realities of life as Baby matures.Like Flashdance this film is all about the all dancing ending which is really an uplifting, feel good experience.
Patrick Swayze's acting ability is dubious as at times he comes across as just arrogant and mean, but hey, he has the body for the role! Jennifer Grey's sincerely ordinary form of beauty gives normal girls hope that someone will notice them someday too.
It was generally well drected however at times the dancing scenes went on too long and became boring. The montage of shots of her learning to dance ws highly effective though s it provided humour and insight into how she slowly let go and loosened up. THe sex scene is also one of the most seductive I have seen!
The shots chosen were often very clever although the visuals suffered from an orange tinge that made everyone loook sleazy!
Overall: a classic romance with a tremendous soundtrack. |
