The Matrix Feel with half the Glitz

This is my number one, all-time favourite movie. The director, Alex Proyas, ingeniously takes a science-fiction thriller and sets it in a film noir setting. The match is perfect, and some low-budget looking visuals aside, this movie is perfect. Rufus Sewell and Kiefer Sutherland are amazing, particularly Sutherland's portrayal of a tormented scientist. The major hole in the acting is the absolutely terrible performance by the love interest, Jennifer Connelly.
As for being ripped off by the Matrix, I would agree. The ending is almost identical, and there are many correlations. However, I think its easy to look at a lot of movies that may have possibly been "ripped off" by the Matrix. The first example that comes to my mind is Total Recall. |
