Citizen Kane is hands down some of the best cinematography ever made. The shots used revolutionized filming and are still awe-inspiring today. Other than that, however, Citizen Kane failed to strike me until the end.

The development in the story was somewhat slow paced. We know that Kane is dead and that his last words are "Rosebud," but we must wait until the very last shot of the film to find out what it means. Once I saw that last shot, the entire film came together and I fully appreciated it. On the other hand, if I had stopped the movie just a minute earlier, I would have walked out in disgust. Finding out that "Rosebud" is the innocence that he lost makes the film. His fortune has gone to waste since he has lost everything else.

The denouement of the film made watching the entire thing worthwile, but the experience of watching the film before that shot was a little boring. So if you watch this film, watch it to the end! If you do not plan on seeing the whole thing, do not expect to be moved.
