There have been many things said about "Citizen Kane" and Orson Wells. Things like "genius", and "brilliant". After seeing this film for nearly a hundred times, I've come to the conclusion that Wells was a genius at being able to get the right people to do the right job the first time he went about making a film. While his contribution was putting it all together, the parts make up the whole. Bernard Herrmann's score (his first). Greg Toland's cinemaphotography. Herman Mankiewicz's script. Well's direction. The ensemble cast of unknowns who later went on to greatness. The result was a film like no other before it or since. Well's poured his heart and soul into this film and it shows. All the efforts of William Randolf Hearst to suppress it have only caused it to become all the more enshrined by film historians.
