When this movie came out I was only 7 year old and I loved it. How could any kid not love this movie? Its got physical humor, crazy ghosts and awesome special effects/computer animation (for the time).
Going back and remembering this movie I would have to say that it might have overstepped its boundaries. While the movie is entertaining, it deals with death almost in a joking kind of way. Casper literally says "death is like being born... but backwords." I started to laugh at the witty statement only to think about it and realize a 12 year old kid just described death to me and I laughed.
Also the ending was surprisingly sad as casper gives up his chance to come back to life so that the girls father can instead. Ummmm what! Since when does a kid sacrafice himself for a 40-50 year old man.
Overall the movie was definatly good, but you should consider not seeing this movie if death is a topic you don't want to laugh about. I give the movie and A- but I am not sure this movie would fly would the religulous crowd. |
