Jack Nicholson is hilarious and at the same time touching as Melvin, a writer in Manhatten with obsessive-compulsion disorder. All he wants in his day is to go down to the restaurant in the morning and have his breakfast, talk to his favorite waitress Carol, and go home and write books. But when he gay neighbor is hospitalized, Melvin is forced by the neighbor's friend to watch his dog until he is better. At first he hates this task but in short order he starts to love the dog. The accident that almost killed his neighbor and the dog that he originally hated deepened his relationship with his neighbor and Carol, who realized that if you get to know Melvin, and I mean really, really get to know him, he isn't such a bad guy. The cast in this film is one of the three best casts I've ever seen (The Lord of the Rings and Pulp Fiction being the others). Their chemistry is simply off the charts. Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt won the Best Actor and Best Actress Oscars, respectively, in 1997, and Greg Kinnear was nominated for an Oscar. The cast just blew me away. It's understandable if you don't think the whole sypnosis of the movie is very interesting, but its really a wonderful experience to watch, any real movie lover will want to see it. My grade:100/100. |
