Armageddon is a good movie. It has some number of glitches, but overall it is very entertaining and emotional. the glitches deducted points from it, but the extra humor which wasn't a neccesity for the genre added a few points. scenes and effects were well-made, and the audio is quite good.
Down to points:
Video: 90
Audio: 94

specific Plot: 94
Scenes: 90
Humor: 89
Romance: 88
Emotional Moments: 94

Glitches: -3
Glitches bother me A LOT, so lets talk about them first:
1) At the begining when the small metoer hit the astronaut and broke his suit, he flew out of space yelling. He can't do that; there's no air in space to transport sound.
2) At the begining where the little dog was fighting with the toy seller, he was biting the little dinasaur. The next scene you see, the dinasaur became man-size. It's impossible to change that fast.
3) When they calculated there are 6 days lefted before the metoer hits earth, the camera that showed the meteor going towards earth is WAY too close to is for 6 days. It also looks quite surreal with the blue fires around it.
4) Explosions in space is impossible because no air to combust....
5.)The part where they have to stop the detonator....it doesn't make sense how right after their dispute, they can get the electrical screw drives and open the detonator in 6 seconds without any preparations. The movie meant to make the time more intense but I think this is overdone.
6.) I dont' think that armadillo can hold a drill that can go 800 ft!! This is the glitch that bothers me the most! The movie mainly just shows some digital numbers going up....650! 680! 713! 780! 805!!! Yea!!!! ......yea.
Glitches said, go to the other qualities.
The video quality is quite good, which goes with the scenes. the director lighting and switching scenes were of a good quality and didn't constantly produce soemthing that made the audiance resurface out of the movie.(Like The Hulk's comic screening showing) The computer generated scenes were well made like the meteor shower at the begining, shanghai, and paris; double shuttles taking off. Also, I like the scene of the helicopters trying to catch Bear, who shouts "Come get Papa Bear!" scene. The President's scene was very high quality too with the music and the scence switches.
The audio was very good. Appropriate songs in appropriate places and does not interfere but supports the mood of the audiance of the movie. Sound Quality is pretty good too.
The overall plot is just about a meteor destroying the earth, and driller who are not trained for this, who have different characteristics and lives, risk their lives to destroy it. When it came out, it was quite an original movie and it cannot be concluded as "another dumb movie about saving the world."
The specific plots are very good, as it has romance, humor, and intensity in it, together forming a high consistency that keeps you awake.
The romance in this movie is basically their for people to develop feelings for the characters, however, t cannot be dismissed as being "bad" because of it.
The movie has a great sense of humor. Karl yelling at his wife, stereotypical jokes, dissing jokes, all have some form of intelligence and makes you laugh even when watching alone(which is harder to laugh).
It is also captivating how Bruce Willice is presented. At the begining he just plays golf on the sea and uses a shot gun for little reason. His "I don't care about anything" style is very interesting. But later you see him getting shaked as he yells out "You're NASA for crying out loud!" and "I'm sorry...about everyhing" While Ben Afflick is a guy who also doesn't give a D but ends up yelling "I love you!" at the end is really touching. It has a sad but good ending.
Intensity if filled in the movie as troubles constantly arise. First the lever breaks in the space station, and one of the two space shuttles crash before the actual mission has started, then the mislanding on a iron hard surface, and all the weather problems in the place. Something is happening constantly instead of slow pacing wandering.
Overall, this is a great movie. People who havn't seen it is missing quite a lot if you don't do it soon. Deep Impact is a similar movie made about the same time as this, but this one is way much better. Armageddon is worth watching and buying.
Last questions to ponder:
Can human survive 11Gs of weight being built up in 10 minutes?
Why does armadillo need a machine gun?? |
