SUMMARY The year was 1839 and the President was Martin Van Buren. He was the 8th president of the United States of America. Story is about a ship and its 53 black Africans. The ships name was La Amistad. This ship was taking the slaves from the coast of Cuba to the . The ship was ended up in the U.S. water and American navy captured them. In three courts including the United States Supreme Court, these Africans fought for their freedom. It happened with the help of a lawyer Roger Baldwin played by (Mathew Conaughey) and an abolitionists Theodore Joadson(Morgan Freeman). At the End another attorney Who happened to be an ex prident of the U.S. John Quincy Adams(Anthony Hopkins) spoke in the Supreme Court of the U.S. on there behalf. At the time President Martin Van Buren was afraid of John Calhoon a senator from south for his owen personal re election made a wrong decision and did not free the slaves- The story is heart pounding and it shows how politics played a big roll in the slavery. The good guys and the bad guys in this movie were abolitionists and slave masters. This movie is going to make you angry, happy, and proud. Angry because of the way people treated people, proud because of all the bad things happened to them still they hold their heads up, and some how happy dou to their release. This is the kind of movie that make you think even after the movie is long way gone. Steven Spielberg did a very good job showing the details of what happened in 1839.The movie is "R" rated because of Nudity and Violance. The movie lasts about 2 hours. Release Date: December 12, 1997 Rated: R / Violance and nudity Starring: Morgan Freeman,Nigel Hawthorne,Anthony Hopkins, and Mathew Conaughey. Directed by: Steven Spielberg. Review by: Mehrnia Noori
