I grew up with the Alien movies, so when I heard that the original Alien was being released in theaters, I was ecstatic! I'm even willing to drive an hour or so to go see it.
Alien was released before I was born, so obviously I was unable to see it in the theater when it originally arrived. And I didn't see it until about 10 years after it had been released, after I had seen Aliens.
But after seeing Aliens, I had a genuine interest in another movie about the Alien. So, I was very excited to see it.
The atmosphere is what does it for me with Alien. The way the movie toys with you for the first hour. Although absolutely disgusting, even the facehugger doesn't make it seem like anything is wrong. It doesn't seem like much of a threat.
Even to this day, the scene while they're having dinner and Kain goes into a coughing fit and eventually the violent birth of the Alien captures my attention with my heart pounding. It's the most intense scene in any movie I've ever seen. And I doubt it will ever be topped.
The rest of the movie is very quickly paced. It makes up for the slow beginning, now that the movie has slapped the audience in the face.
Although, the computer details look somewhat outdated, the alien effects are still superb! Especially for a film from 1979.
I would recommend Alien to anyone. |
