You knew it was coming, didn't you? When AIM became so big it wasnt even funny...when chatrooms opened up, and dating services turned to the online community, you KNEW that sooner or later a movie would be made.
Amazingly enough, it wasn't as big a disaster as I thought it would be.
I credit this to Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Their chemistry, as always, lights up the screen in a flirty and energetic way. It's refreshing to see a romantic comedy that is NOT centered around sex. Cybersex is mentioned in a light, casual way...which i find totally hilarious.
This movie takes the mystery of online dating and makes it a somewhat charming notion. Anyone who has been in a chatroom longer than two seconds knows that this is rarely true. Most people use the internet as a way to express their perverted and twisted feelings. It's just another method of achieving drama.
You've Got Mail is cute, funny, light-hearted, and has a lot of witty comments that will entertain your boyfriend if you force him to sit through it. He may even come away with a genuine smile instead of a pained "Help! get me away from the chick flik" wince.
All in all, one of the easiest romantic comedies to watch with ANYONE....kids, parents, whatever. Very light and funny.
Trivia: This is the third movie that Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks have starred in together. Seems like more to me though. |
