Really uninspired Garbage-see the '63 version

This is an awful movie. It's a vile remake of a 1963 movie by the same name that wasn't great and is dated - but beats the hell out of this obvious, unoriginal sh.t. Director Jan De Bont (Speed) fills this flick with special effects that aren't very special and look so fake that they inspire laughter instead of fright.
There is nothing scary about this movie unless you count the dreadful acting by Owen Wilson, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Liam Neeson. Lili Taylor does the only inspired acting in this film and even her character grows annoying very quickly.
Wowie! A haunted house film about a child murderer and the spirits of children and evil entities floating around with CGI effects up the wazoo to prove it. The only good scene is the one where Owen Wilson loses his head - literally. That didn't even come as a shock but it was funny as hell.
Apparently Hollywood hasn't learned their lesson ,either because they keep mass producing this crap. Example- Darkness, which is also on my Dreadful list. That turd doesn't even have the CGI effects.
I recommend renting the 1963 version instead. Yes, it's old and grainy and I don't believe you can get it on DVD yet but it beats this drivel. It's more psychological and actually has some nice suspense. See for yourself. Or, don't even bother with either one of these versions. |
