I was extremely disappointed in the remake of "The Haunting". I much prefer the original 1963 version to this wanna-be horror flick. This movie had real potential of being decent, but sadly it was lost in the horrible acting and the unending CGI. The original version was very effective because it relied heavily on the imagination of the viewer to make it frightening, which in my opinion is the only way to make something truly scary anyway. By not showing every single ghost through the "magic" (yeh right) of CGI, the viewer had to imagine for himself what was going on, and what we can come up with on our own is far more scary than anything they can show us on the screen. I don't see why people today feel such a need to remake all these classic old films like "The Haunting" - If it ain't broke, don't fix it. So yeh, skip out on the remake, but take a look at the original 1963 version. |
