SPOILERS AHEAD Ok, where do I start? How many plot holes are in this propoganda/murder-mystery exploitation film? No, it wasn't exactly obvious who the killer was from the start, but the finale reminded me less of a first-rate thriller than a rerun of "Matlock," albeit gorier. Some problems I had with this film included: 1) that Travolta's character seemed to be physically abler than anybody he needed to confront-- what if a tough guy just took him on and whipped his sorry butt? Then what? He made a living out of bullying, but it's never quite understood how he has all these priveleges of office. 2) that the General's daughter lived a double-life of sexual freak-show never seems to pan out in either the plotline or a moral conviction of the film. For a movie that pretends to be so self-righteous, a lot of unrighteousness sure gets swept under the carpet so the contrived ending can take place. True story? Doubtful. 3) Col. More's death is not addressed as being very important to the Army. Everything is dropped for the sake of the General's daughter. 4) No development of the political career of the General. So, what do we have. A movie that starts out well, then becomes very unbelievable and boring. Travolta is a good actor, but his skill is on the verge of hamminess. Sorry. I give this ** out of ****
