this could have been such a great film. Its all there. There are flashes of brillance. Like 25th hour, some marvalous sequences, and then the movie digresses into spikes perverted italian fantasy. The graphic sex scene undermine the movie. While party scenes are needed to show the times, they were way to abundant. One thing that didnt make sense to me is Adrien Brodies character. Supposedly who gets very into the punk rock scene, Lee portrays his character as talking with a british accent and worshipping the who; being from New York City, Lee should have known that the largest underground punk rock scene was going on right under his nose at places like cbgb's. Aside from that, the paranoia is overwhelming. At first its fastinating, and then it turns into spike over toughining italians in scenes where an old timer tells the youngin's to "protect the nighborhood with bats". I want to give this movie an A+, and I want this to be a great movie, because thats what it should have been, but spike blew it, and this movie critically put a damper on his career, causing his next film, the great "25th hour" to get little attension. |
