This high energy, futuristic film, crafted by German director Tom Tykwer, is constantly shifting. Its deliberate move away from reality sets the audience apart from an emotional reaction and lends sight to the meaning created by the digital weaving of music, sequence, and scene.
In the set up, Lola's boyfriend, Manni, will be killed if she cannot come up with a large sum of money and meet him across town in 20 minutes. In this race against time, the focus is indeed on time. The chaos theory comes into effect as Lola runs from situation to situation, and the plot returns to the beginning again and again. With the collision between reality and fantasy, the film is a constant reminder of its production. |
