You either love this movie or hate it, with most people falling into the latter category, largely because much of the story is overplayed and unbelievable. But everything starts to make sense once you view the film as an extended dream (as suggested by the title) taking place in the mind of a married man shaken by thoughts of his wife's infidelity and his own sexuality. If you enjoy analyzing dreams, you'll love this movie, as the process of watching it is like sifting through the vaguely remembered elements of a persistent dream. Which sexually-charged images are based in reality and which are simply expressions of a troubled psyche? That's the challenge of the story, the fun of the movie, and aspect most viewers didn't quite 'get.' |
