This movie is unlike anything I have ever seen. One point I would like to make is, anyone who did not understand the story, please don't give it a bad rating because that is unfair. How can you rate a movie you admit you can't understand?
As for the movie, it is genius. The director (Sam Mendes) and cinematographer (Conrad Hall) find beauty in the most unlikely places - watch the 'dancing bag' scene, or the scene where Lester is dying - that is unlikely beauty. The story does make sense if you take the time to understand it. It is about how people make themselves unhappy by striving to be what they think society wants them to be, and not by living their lives the way they want to live. As always, Kevin Spacey (Lester) and Annette Bening (Caroline) give amazing performances. Even the characters that the audience hates, such as the 'real estate king' (Peter Gallagher) or the abuse father (Chris Cooper) are acted perfectly. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is in the mood for a beautiful, complex, interesting movie. |
