Nothing is perfect. That certainly goes for this movie. How can you live up to the term "perfect" anyway? In that sense, "A Perfect Murder" was doomed from the start.
Paltrow does an incredible job in this movie...that is, she does a great job of sitting there looking scared. She's magnificent in her portrayal of an upper class blonde idiot, who just wants to be loved.
An underdog appears once again. In his own words he has "arrived so many times, I dont know where i went." Once again, Hollywood pulls out their secret weapon, real-life artist, Viggo Mortensen. He plays the sexy fiend who steals the leading lady's heart behind her husbands back.... Too bad no one has warned her that he's a lowdown bastard out for her money. Mortensen plays an ***** quite well.
Michael Douglas... what more can you possibly say? The guy is classic, no matter how much you'd love to hate him. You'll enjoy hating him in this film...that's what sets this one apart. He really is a prat!! A rich, evil MEANIE!
The problem with this film, is that it is very unrealistic. It is everyone out to kill everyone. That makes a great story, but it is a very difficult element to bring to the screen if there is to be any sense of realism. This movie has serious flaws that shouldn't be overlooked. Half the movie I spent wondering how any hired hit-man could screw up trying to murder Paltrow. IT CAN'T BE THAT HARD DUDE!!!!
The twists and turns are creepy and cool, but if you are looking for a scare don't watch this movie. If you have a cynical sense of humor, or you enjoy watching death-triangles, go for it. Rent it, and enjoy. It just isn't as frightening as it could have been. It just doesnt rank up there with other thrillers. It's more entertaining to root for your favorite killer than be scared of them. At least that is so in this movie. Let's face it, none of us would be scared if Mortensen or Douglas broke into our homes trying to kill us. Most people would probably just laugh.
Advice: Rent the DVD, if at all possible. I've heard it has an alternate ending. I haven't seen it yet, but it could add a whole other dimension to it.
Trivia: The art in David's studio is TRULY Viggo Mortensen's work. |
