Synopsis: After two terms in the White House, the former president (Hackman) opts to settle down in a small coastal New England town to retire and write his memoirs. He is soon encouraged to run for mayor. However, with a love interest at stake, the local hardware store owner (Romano) decides to run against him "just to keep things honest". The president's political instincts compel him to intensify the race for mayor, upping the stakes to the point that he becomes embroiled in one the most contentious political battles of his career.
