There were lessons to be learned at every turn, but the characters are written to be so self absorbed that they learn nothing.
This is a well acted movie with a dreary script. A father who is too self involved to see anyone's needs beyond his own and a son who sees only the misery it created for him - and there's plenty to go around.
A story with nothing to say.
