    I'm glad I didn't read the site's synopsis, since it gives the ending away!! I didn't know why the son was in prison nor why his mother was so hated in the town. Excellent acting all around, especially the two who played the boy at different ages. You won't see a glamourous actress playing the mother: rather a gaunt, hopeless, sad woman whose life has been ruined by her evil son.

    I read the book, and it was one of the best books I ever read. The movie was well done, yet very disturbing.Even though I knew what was going to happen, my heart was still pounding. I think they did a very good of job of bringing the characters to life with such a diffucult subject matter. This movie is not for the faint of heart. It will stay with me for quite some time.
