As depressing as one might find, this movie certainly offers a sharp and poignant look at many relationships in the real world. It is sad to see the characters are trapped, hopeless and helpless, but it is movies like this that makes us reflect on life. In terms of cinematic style, the editing (it has many jump cuts, I think) helps develop the characters and bring out the theme. Its style is not uncommon, but serves this movie well.
In a way, it reminds me of the movie, Seeing Other People, although that has a much lighter note.
