What can you say about a love story involving a live girl and a zombie that doesn't start out sounding like a joke.
But despite what it appears on the surface, Warm Bodies is a delightful movie filled with warmth, humor, thoughtful insight and even a little scariness.
The plot is loosely based on Romeo and Juliet, with the Characters named "R" - the zombie can't remember his full name and Julie.
They come from different worlds - hers the remaining living human beings holed up behind a defensive fortress and his a roaming loosely connected band of zombies "living" in the city's airport.
R considers his best friend to be the zombie he can occasionally sit down and have a good grunt with.
All changes when he meets Julie and eats her boyfriend's brain, capturing his memories. He suddenly sees Julie not as a food source, but as a woman and decides in his muddled zombie brain that he must protect her.
They get to know each other and the more time he spends with her, the more alive he feels. Can they ever make a connection? Can anyone? That is the whole point of the movie and it's worth taking the ride to find the answer!
