In the distance behind a tree,a young boy watches as a foal is born. Then and there he claims him for his own. When his father buys the horse,it is set to plow the fields and the boy calls his horse,Joey. Once WW1 commences,the family has to sell the horse for they are dirt poor and can't afford its keep. A soldier buys the horse but promises the boy he will take good care of the strong creature. Joey becomes a star war horse saving lives and in heroic feats in 1918 wartime England. Eventually Joey and the boy reunite.
The movie is a lovely story but the scene of the horse becoming entangled in barbed wire is upsetting.
