Saw the movie two weeks ago. I was prepared to have my heart strings tugged at and to mist up. I was not disappointed. What suprised me was the feeling of anguish I felt watching some of the trench warfare scenes. The audio of the machine gun rounds going off and hitting their targets and the landmines exploding all around had me at the edge of my seat more than once. While the plot was so-so, the cinematography was excellent and the the acting for the most part was good.
Thought some of the dialog wasn't so hot, especially Germans and Frenchmen speaking English, but again the surround-sound made me duck to avoid being hit. If you like horses, tear-jerking movies and leaving the theater feeling satisfied, this is a good movie for you, especially if you pay matinee prices.
