Terrific Movie ! Well acted, directed. Quite a story. Much depth and substance here. Probably too much for the 21st century prodigy acclimated, programmed to superficial sensationalism with bawdy grotesque cinema. This movie gives the viewer a lot to think about. Such as courage, bravery, Love, human respect on all levels. A movie that should be seen more than once.

This movie was fantastic. All that this horse endeared, shows how close humans and animals lives come close to comparison. I would recommend this movie to everyone.

Okay so to all those didn't like War Horse get a grip. The movie is based on a book intended for children in the 10-14 year age group and it is a work of fiction. Although it has some basis in facts of WWI it is still meant to be read as a novel. So anyone who decides to write a play or produce a movie from the book has some artistic freedom to tell the story their way. The movie was not intended to to show the gory details of the slaughter of men and horses during that war and to that end Steven Spielberg did an admiral job of sparing us those images. Also to "flytba", I went to grade school and high school and never learned about the cruelty to animals during wars. In fact it was after seeing this movie I did some research and learned that close to 10 million horses were killed in WWI. I seriuosly doubt that all of the people you claim to know about all the cruelty towards animals and the horrors of war actually know any of that. The book, play, and movie are a tribute to the horses that gave their lives in WWI and all other wars. The story needs to be told and shown so people do know about what happened. Sticking our heads in the sand and not wanting to see or hear about something horrible in the world, and blaming those who tell the story for ruining your day, only helps perpetuate the problem.
With all that said you still need to rememeber that the story is really about the bond and love between Albert and Joey. It is about the Faith and trust that they have in each other that they will be together again. Finally it is about compassion that people are capable of displaying towards a horse or their fellow man during a time of unimaginable horror. The movie left me feeling hopeful that we can still find away to come together during times of crisis. One more thing; the images that children will have in their minds from seeing this movie are far less frighteneing tha those they see in video games or on TV.
Watch this movie with an open mind and heart and you will see the masterpiece of storytelling that it is.

Well said, dude. I agree 100%. Thanks.

They should let you know upfront that it is about the abuse and killing of all those horses. Had I known, I never would've chosen to watch it in the fist place. That should be my choice.

Hey Observer, the title is War Horse. How more upfront can one get?

Waaay too sappy for me. Plot is trite, and they could have cut the combat scenes by 30 minutes.

Amen, Robert. You forgot bad acting, cheesy script, and outright boring.

Way too overly dramatized. Didn't shed a tear. Reminded me of scenes from Gone With the Wind.

This was extraordinarily LESS than what I expected from Spielberg. The story was too fractured, and too cliche ridden throughout. Emotional buttons were pushed, and the boy and the horse and Emily Watson were great. Nonetheless, it just lacked a total cohesiveness. And wow, their poor little farm in the highlands... looked like a palace, compared to the supposed grit of the storyline. Lots of "Gone With The Wind" sort-of effects, and many slow spots, (wondering why this is in there?). Even the music was sub-par Williams. Could definitely have had a better screenwriter, and a tighter hand. No way should this picture be up for a "Best."

This was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It will touch every emotion you have. Bring your kleenex if you are a horse lover. There are some very sad parts but it has a wonderful ending! Definitely, a must see! Academy award written all over it!

Hollywood rip off. Spielberg should give the money back. Corny as Kansas.
