Waiting for 'Superman'(2010)- User Reviews

My wife is a charter school teacher, and I am a public school teacher. We watched this film excitedly, hoping to be inspired to continue working hard, yet the film really disappointed us. First, I work for a terrific public school in Compton,CA. Why doesn't this film point out great public schools in at-risk communities as well?

My wife- whose charter school is exploiting her by asking her to give up her summer days without pay and not paying for extra-duty- was upset because she says this film should also point out how bad some charters are as well. Why not mention how many charters have very high levels of attrition-both teachers and students. That is not good for kids.

This film does make some great points about those teachers that simply collect the check and the unwillingness of unions to help with reform, but to ban unions completely is to open the door to arbitrary reasons to fire teachers. So, we are still WAITING FOR... the film that really promotes real solutions to the deficiencies in education as a whole, not just public ed. The key to a good education is a strong teacher, a caring and supportive parent, and a willing student. When one is missing, the tricycle doesn't roll well.
