OK, for my American brethren, you have to get over your big budget, special effects laden eye candy movie, A few points to understand:
1) You have to have a basic understanding of Norse mythology and the Viking mind set.
2) Think mysticism
3) If you can grip the first two you can start to understand what is going on.
4) One eye has to die at the end so his spirit can return to start the cycle over again
5) It is only late in the move that Norse and Pict/Native American belief systems are unified
This is a minor classic; not for the weak or children. Too slow for those who cannot focus and think and too bloody/crude for those who cannot look violence and extreme behavior front on. This is a thinking man's movie.
I am not surprised most Americans do not like it (I am one by the way) but I rate it up with great unknowns like Baghdad Cafe.
