Don't raise your hopes too high, and you just might enjoy this little horror flick. A suspenseful air of the perverse diffuses itself through the opening and middle scenes, w/ a much anticipated but unfortunately predictable climax.

The plot of the film follows a young woman's release from the psychiatric ward into a rarified society consisting of her two childhood friends, her doctor (or shrink), and random guys they meet. She's been having dreams that she and her friends play a game "True True Lie" in which the winner gets his/her way. Usually it's the girls against one or more guys, and in her dreams the guys want sexual favors but are instead murdered upon losing the game. Little does she know the dreams depict real occurrences, and by the time she finds out, she also learns a little more about herself. How's that for character development, haha.

I find that the film itself is weak in that characters are mentioned but never fully developed. First there's the doctor, who weaves in and out of the progressing plot, only to not get anywhere. Also, we're left at the end of it wondering what really happened to her parents, since their disappearance seems fortuitous enough. Also the fact that they killed at age 12 or so implies that they would have been under-aged and thus acquitted w/out trial. Insofar as the plot is coherent, then, it appears that some things were thrown in w/out sufficient consideration.

I did like the Poe motifs, though, such as the beating heart under the floorboards (Tell-Tale Heart), being walled up alive (The Cask of Amontillado), and the pervading sense of insanity. Fortunately the acting was decent enough to bring these vestiges to life, so I can't say it was all bad.
