True Grit review

True Grit is not just another western that deals with gunfights and a damsel in distress, this movie goes much deeper than that. It takes the viewer on a ride with a 14 year old girl seeking revenge for her father’s murder, a Texas Ranger that is pursuing the same man for a different reason, and a colorful U.S. Deputy Marshal that helps the young girl. Mattie Ross is the 14 year old girl that wants revenge for her father’s murder. She was played by the actress Hailee Stienfield who does an amazing job in drawing the viewer into feeling like they are right there on the journey. The Texas Ranger La Boeuf is depicted not so well by Matt Damon who in my opinion could have been portrayed better; I feel that he tried a little too hard to act like he was in a western instead of just acting. The murder they are pursuing, Tom Chaney, is played by Josh Brolin who I feel did a really good job in portraying him in the way that he was a criminal but wasn’t really the brains of the operation. The Marshal Rooster Cogburn was played by the actor Jeff Bridges who in my opinion did an amazing job in portraying the many faces of Rooster to their fullest.
This film was given a rating of PG-13 which I feel was a good rating for this movie for the fact that it isn’t just a lot of fighting and swearing but it did have some in it. The visual appeal of this movie is great it has the setting that the places in that time setting would have. You feel like you are actually watching something that could be from that time era instead of a modern movie. All together I believe that this is a superb film not just for the western genre but an all-around great movie.

The John Wayne movie as far better. Jeff Bridges doesn't have the genuis of the Rooster Cogburn character as portrayed by Wayne. I can't believe the remake received any Oscar awards. What was the Academy thinking?
