Any movie with Clint Eastwood is likely to be entertaining and worth seeing. Mix that ability in with other talented actors, a favorable depiction of the traditional American past time, and the predictable result is likely to be a good movie that is worth watching.
"Trouble With the Curve" succeeds on several levels. Eastwood plays the role of an aging scout with panache. His character is similar in many respects to his role in "Gran Torino." It is hard not to like the character who is facing his own mortality with grit and determination.
At the same time, his daughter, played by Amy Adams, is trying to like her father despite his lack of emotion and inability to have many successful relationships.
As a backdrop to the drama, the viewer sees baseball fields as they exist in small town America and a realistic depiction of those that enjoy watching and playing the game. Having some knowledge of baseball and what makes a successful ball player will make this movie more enjoyable.
It probably won't win an academy award. But the movie is entertaining and well worth a trip to the theater or renting it when it comes out on DVD.
