Who would have thought that a movie about a troupe of Polish actors trying to escape the Nazi invasion could be so hysterical? Yet it is, and also suspenseful and heroic, and finally, hysterical again. Carole Lombard, in her last performance, proves her dramatic ability, as she moves from being hilariously daffy to being nobly valiant to, at the end, a truly comic heroine.
