Annoying -puts the 40+ crowd in an unrealistic light

star22

Saw this with my friend, and yes -we're both in our 40s -it wasn't my first choice but she wanted to see a buddy movie and get a good laugh. First off, there are some genuinely funny and interesting moments. However, they're few and far between.

The movie seemed way too long. I kept wondering, "When is this over already?" My friend really liked it, but honestly I would have rather watched something else, something that wasn't so boring and unrealistic.

The actress in the movie, the main character doesn't look ANYTHING like any 40 year olds that I've met. She could be 35. The husband looks a little more like a 40 year old, but their situation is hardly worth feeling sorry for. This kind of reminded me of "Parenthood" a little bit, it wasn't anything that made me feel involved -except it wasn't clever and hardly any laughs. The whining, the easily fixable problems, the pissy teenage daughter and her hatred for her little sister. Doesn't exactly make me sympathize with the family's plight -they're a bunch of neurotic, selfish, spoiled Americans with nothing else to focus on, but their "declining" years...give me a break.

There's swearing, fighting, nudity, & gratuitous moments of vulgarity like the poster shows, where the husband is parked on the toilet, playing with his iPad -um I didn't shell out $8 to escape to the movies to have to be shown that over and over again. Two stars is generous, believe me. It doesn't put aging, marriage, or parenthood in a good light at all. And the three are actually pretty awesome, IMO. If you want an uplifting movie, look elsewhere.
