The War(1994)

Set in Mississippi in the early 1970s, two young siblings build a treehouse as an escape from poverty and the secret burdens of childhood. They soon resolve to defend their refuge from neighborhood children whose fortunes are even worse than their own. When a turf war threatens to break out, the children must confront the teachings of tolerance and understanding their father, a recently returned Vietnam veteran, has tried to instill.
