The Visitor is two basically films in one: a story about friendship and a battle for justice within the immigration system but honestly they would've been so much better is they had just stuck with the first one. Walter is a professor looking for purpose in his life. He struggles to play the piano and his students fail to take the class seriously. However, when he finds a young couple in his New York City apartment one night a friendship begins. But when one is deported, Walter struggles to do all he can to keep him within the country. The Visitor is an impressive character drama but goes from a very heartwarming first hour to a dark and dreary last 40 minutes. The message is strong about how it feels but could've been conveyed so much better. Fans of independent cinema may enjoy it but everyone else might just get upset.
