As a fan, not a groupie, of the books and the movies I thought that in comparison to the last movies, this really was the best one.
Most reviews are correct about the very poor effects, and it raises the question- what the hell did they do with such a budget?
I'll tell you what they did - they put it all in a fight scene which never occured in the book, not even in the least.
I was watching the movie with a friend who didn't read the book; *spoiler alert*
and while she was close to crying over all the people dying, I was close to screaming out in the middle of the movie "THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN!!!"
I found it annoying, but if you like your movies filled with action, just so it can justify the budget, then it was an overall good movie.
