The original Thing (1982) is seriously one of the most brilliant Sci-Fi Horror movies ever. It had some of the best effects ever but that didn't shadow the brilliant character development, pacing, suspense, dread, isolation and genuine fear in that movie.
THIS movie on the other had is a CGI fest which i wouldn't mind as much if the CGI effects didn't look like Langoliers. There's no character development, every character was completely interchangeable so that destroys all measures of suspense when trying to figure out if someone is acting "strange." There's no subtlty when it comes to how the creature(s) attack, it shows no form of intelligence and the moment anyone looks at it crossed, it's head splits open and attacks. I could go on for hours why this movies is terrible. Even if you haven't seen the original and are going into this film blind, i still cannot recommend it. Just watch the original. (By the way, I'm calling John Carpenter's Thing as the original even though The Thing from Another World is technically the original.)
