The original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remains one of the most shocking films ever. With a surprisingly little amount of blood (like the '78 "Halloween") the director, Tobe Hooper, manages to create a suspenseful and terrifying movie.
The plot revolves around a group of 5 young people, two of which have family-owned property in West Texas. On the way there, they pick up a (very) bizarre hitchhiker, and that's when the fun begins.
It seems that the hitchhiker is not only looking for a ride, but also for "fresh meat" for the family BBQ business.
Some really great scares ensue, with the brutal Leatherface hammering, hooking and slicing his way through the teenagers in some tense scenes.
The real treat of this film for horror buffs is the last 20-25 minutes, when star Marilyn Burns is subjected to countless atrocities, culminating in a famous "dinner scene" with the Leatherface clan.
This was followed by several inferior sequels, and a "re-imagining" (sigh) in 2003.
