Exceptionally talented actors and actresses and a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat- now THIS is a movie! If you have never seen this cinematic masterpiece, I wholeheartedly recommend it- just remember that this isn't one for the kids.
The Silence of the Lambs stars Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster), an FBI trainee sent by Jack Crawford (Scott Glenn), head of the FBI's behavioral department, to catch the serial killer "Buffalo Bill" (Ted Levine), who kills and flays women. It takes one to know one, so she interviews the serial killer Dr. Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter, M.D. (Anthony Hopkins). With a story like this, you can't go wrong. The young, innocent Clarice, trying to make a name for herself, but with ulterior motives... The aging, flawed father figure to Clarice, Jack, carrying the burden of hunting down Buffalo Bill before he is forced into retirement… And of course, the eerily intelligent, cannibalistic former psychiatrist Dr. Lecter, who is more concerned about his own amusement than saving lives…
Anthony Hopkins does a phenomenal job as Dr. Lecter. Good actors can play a character, but great actors can BE a character- and that is exactly what Hopkins does here. The intensity of his acting is, frankly, disturbing. It’s to the point where you don’t think of him as an actor- you think of him as a cannibalistic killer. The way he moves, his tone of voice, the way his gaze gives you the feeling that he can see right through you- it’s eerie.
So, go out and get this movie, if you haven’t already. It won’t disappoint.
P.S. If you enjoy this movie (and I'm sure you will.), I recommend reading the Hannibal Lecter series. It's worth it, especially if you're a Lecter fan.
