Thoughtful, beautiful film

star55

I saw this film in NYC and was impressed by its thoughtfulness, excellent acting and cinematography, and strong directing, especially considering this is a first-time director. David Strathairn is amazing, but so is Jane Adams, Ian Somerhalder, Elisabeth Waterston (Sam's daughter), Daniel Gillies, the great Scott Wilson, and former child actor now grown up ("The River Wild," "Jurassic Park")Joe Mazello--great ensemble acting. This is a film to watch and watch again, as there's so much here to digest in one sitting. Visuals are stunning and beautiful. This is one of those independent films that can slip through the cracks, but don't let it slip through yours because the rewards from letting its refreshingly slower pace wash over you and its philosophical musings sink in are great. This is the kind of film I wish I could see more often.
