This is a good movie to watch if you want to wind down, feel peaceful. I LOVED this movie so much, it just gave me a warm feeling of wonder and tranquility. I can't wait til it's on DVD so I can buy it! There are probably certain personalities that won't appreciate the movie - like if you are a total action fan, someone who likes a lot of noise, constant energy...

Also, I almost always insist on watching anime or any foreign film in it's native language, but I didn't mind the English dub too much. Although Shawn's voice sounded a little old, but then again they never really said how old he was??

If you enjoy the beauty of art, life, love, family, nature, wonder etc. you will be captivated by this movie, kids and adults alike. If you need more action and over the top comedy then you won't like this movie.

My daughter will be 3 years old on April 30th and she sat through the entire movie. In fact, this was her first movie EVER and she watched the entire movie as did ever other child in the theater. But it's not on the same level as Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle, or even Ponyo. But it was still an enjoyable movie, but yes, it could have been better.

Or if you want , chase down (on DVD ) Lupin:Castle of Cagliostro , Miyazaki from that point on moved to child's point of view in his films, so this story about a famous thief is very cool even for adults .

I love all of Hayao Miyazaki's films as well as Studio Ghibli. Unfortunately this movie is not by Hayao Miyazaki, just the studio. I will definitely go watch it this weekend!

Just saw this today and enjoyed it greatly...it's a quiet film and not for people looking for a lot of "slam, bang" action and such, but it was a nice story well told, the look and feel of the film is just gorgeous, and there's a lot of subtlety to the movements and interactions between characters...It was something I needed badly to help make me feel more settled and it did the job well...nice job Studio Ghibli!

I find it sad that some of the English-speaking audience didn't appreciate this film. Just because there wasn't an explosion or tragically complicated plot doesn't mean it's a boring movie. It is for children- the plot is strait-forward and fun, and the animation was beautiful. One of my favorite Studio Ghiblis.

People say its not his movie, but he wrote and produced it. Which is basically the same thing as Lucas with Return of the Jedi. That was HIS baby. (Richard Marquand--no offense guy).

Wondering.....would it be good for a 5-year old boy?

well English is the official language of the United States. Beside a Japanese accent would give it a cheap sound. but as it is animated at least the lips would match up. lol

It's Miyazaki-san: 'nuff said. I've got most of the movies that have been released here in the states and I watched part of this project online as well. Mary Norton was my favorite author growing up, the borrowers were my favorite characters, and I'm sure that this movie has definitely enhanced the original story.
If you're an original voice acting fan, then by the movie when it comes out and listen to it in the jap. w/ eng subs; most of the studio ghibli movies have that if you look hard enough.

I really have to disagree with you in that I have always enjoyed the last few Ghibli dubs since Monoke. The casting for these movies have been almost dead on and I just can't imagine listening to any other version.

I would love to hear the other dubs versions as well. They all sport impressive casts.

The movie was made by Studio Ghibli, its just that Disney handled the North America distribution like they did with Spirited Away.
