Promised Land(2012)- User Reviews

Ultimately a good story about values.

Thought that the story line was about frackking oil.

Left feeling that the movie was much more powerful than that. Ultimately, it dealt with values and expectations. The company buying leases is playing to greed, misplaced promises, illusions of wealth.

The people in town are by and large hard working folks with farms and land. They are trying to standby the responsibility of their life to the heritage of their parents and grandparents and their children.

Contrast that with the dudes who live in town, some of whom look at their house lots and see an easy dollar and could care less about issues.

Right behind everything comes the corporation - determined to successfully close out their effort to acquire the leases they need. Dropping "contributions" and protecting their play, they have shined their image and played their sides effectively.

A story that in the end is a look at society, direction, power, greed, goodness, humanity and doubt. Something to consider as we now need to sift through who we are and who do we wish to stand up to.
