The Phantom Creeps - Serial Version(1949)

Bela Lugosi stars in this classic Universal serial as Dr. Alex Zorka, a crackpot scientist who invents the "secret element," something so powerful that it catches the attention of the US government as well as spies form various countries, all of whom scramble to obtain it. Though it ranks as one of the more inventive serials of the era, with its array of quasi-futuristic gadgets as well as an assortment of deranged robots, THE PHANTOM CREEPS is truly so bad that it's good. Aided immeasurably by Lugosi's manic lead performance and some truly hilarious stock footage, THE PHANTOM CREEPS is a great entertainment.
