The People Vs. Larry Flint was a very good movie. It is based on the true story of Hustler Magazine founder Larry Flint and his battle with the justice system. When Flint started posting newsletters of nude women, it started a controversy that would lead him to several court cases and eventually to the Supreme Court. His story is a fascinating journey of a man set out to protect his right and those of all Americans under the First Amendment.

The performances were great in the People Vs. Larry Flint. Harrelson was terrific playing the title character. Perhaps even more impressive was the performance of Courtney Love as his wife. Their relationship is odd but touching. They stick by each other throughout the highs and lows. I was really rooting for them to succeed. Finally, Edward Norton has to be mentioned as Flint’s attorney. He was magnificent in this role. He fought and fought for Flint and they become friends.

The directing was good. He didn’t just make it about the case(s) but about the characters. He made the audience care about the character, which is not easy to do when the main character is a pornographer and his wife is addicted to drugs. The Supreme Court hearing was a great scene. I really liked many of the scenes with Courtney and Woody. They were well directed and well acted.

All in all, the movie was great. The story was well written and the characters well developed. The acting was phenomenal and the directing was good. Highly Recommended.
