I LOVED the Muppets growing up! No, not in the 80's (that was Fraggle Rock - blecch!) - in the 70's. I was so hoping for a Muppet revival with this movie, but not holding my breath. The writing was off, the plot cliche and it took WAY too long for the appearance of Kermit and the gang. Not to mention the musical number in the beginning with no Muppets in it - HUH? This had Disney's claws all over it and you could tell (like all those straight-to-DVD movies of the last decade). While there was a slight amount, I was hoping for more of the hip 'Shrek' treatment, with about a quarter of the jokes a wink and nod to the adults in the audience. Jim Henson struggled to get the Muppets on the air outside of the Sesame Street world of children's entertainment (read 'Street Gang'). And, he nailed it with the original 'Muppet Movie'. I doubt there'll be another movie in the theaters, . And, it's too bad. The Muppets are cool, but their coolness definitely wasn't maximized with this film.
