A golden-hearted, magical movie
The Land of Faraway is the ultimate family movie. It tells of the young boy Bossre(I don't think that's how you spell it) who lives in Stockholm but is not loved by his Aunt and Uncle. When he runs away to try and find his long-lost father, he rescues a spirit trapped in a bottle, and when the spirit finds that he carries a golden apple, he realizes that he is son of the King of the Land of Faraway, where the spirit is from, and the spirit takes him there.
When Bossre meets his father for the first time, he discovers that his real name is Meo, and he also discovers his best friend there too, who he knew as Banker bu his real name is Jum-Jum(played by modern day actor Christan Bale). Meo begins to befriend the people of Faraway, but he discovers that many of the children have been kidnapped by the evil knight Kato(Christopher Lee) who lives on the other side of the island, and only Meo and Jum-Jum can go on the quest to defeat him and rescue the children.
My mother rented The Land of Faraway for me, and when I saw it, I fell in love with it. Though it's a tad bit violent, that's what makes it fun. It is adapted from the book "Meo, My Son" by the late author Astrid Lindgren(who also wrote Pippi Longstocking). If you enjoy films about kids who are heroes and at the same time fight people more than just punching and kicking(unlike Spy Kids and Agent Cody Banks) you'll love The Land of Faraway.
